Yin and Yang

The Yin Yang symbol is a Chinese representation of the entire celestial phenomenon. It exists together from an initial quiescence or emptiness and continues to move in tandem until quiescence is reached again.

Yin and Yang describe opposing qualities in phenomena. For instance, winter is yin to summer's yang over the course of a year, and femininity is yin to masculinity's yang in human relationships.

The symbol of Yin and Yang represents the ancient Chinese understanding of how things work. The outer circle represents "everything", while the black and white shapes within the circle represent the interaction of two energies, called "yin" (black) and "yang" (white), which cause everything to happen.

While "yin" would be dark, passive, downward, cold, contracting, and weak, "yang" would be bright, active, upward, hot, expanding, and strong. Yin is receptive, yielding, negative, and nurturing. It possesses the character of being feminine, passive, receives, soft and dark. Yang is active, dominating, positive, and creating, and tends to be masculine, active, creates, hard and bright.

The light color of the Yin Yang Symbol represents sunlight is called Yang (Sun). The dark color, which has less sunlight, is called Yin (Moon). Yang is like man. Yin is like woman. Yang wouldn't grow without Yin. Yin couldn't give birth without Yang. Yin is born (begins) at Summer Solstice and Yang is born (begins) at Winter Solstice. Therefore one little circle Yin is marked on the Summer Solstice position. Another little circle Yang is marked on the Winter Solstice position. These two little circles look like two fish eyes.

Apparently, Yin and Yang symbol can be found in some aspects in our lives, whether in martial arts (Taiji-chuan), religions (Taoism) or just a concept to represent love relationships between men and women. Every phenomenon or state, and its opposite that we experience, be it poverty and abundance, sickness and health, success and failure can be explained with reference to the transient precedence of one principle over the other. Since neither of the two, Yin or Yang dominates endlessly, which means that all conditions are subject to change into their opposites.

Strangely, though the Yin and Yang symbols derived from the Chinese representation, many of its symbols can be found all over the countries.
The Yin and Yang charms also symbolize luck, power, health, wealth and peace for us who wish to own them. They as well, can adorn our body and bring us into harmony with nature.
